The course is aimed at those who have a commitment to gain an understanding of health and social care activities and who want to pursue a career within these sectors. The Edexcel BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) are highly regarded, nationally and internationally recognised, undergraduate level programmes, equivalent to the first and second year of a university degree course. They are at Level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework. These Health and Social Care programmes have been designed to equip individuals with the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for employment in Health & Social Care, both in the UK and overseas. These qualifications meet and exceed the National minimum standard of qualification set by the Care Quality Commission for those practising in Health & Social Care in the UKHND Health & Social care is a two year programme. It leads to further academic and professional qualifications, and/or further career within the health & Social care sector. By completing this course a student can progress to a top up degree level 6 with many UK universities.  The course is aimed at those who have a commitment to gain an understanding of health and social care activities and who want to pursue a career within these sectors. The course has been designed around the following themes: People, Values, Ethics and Equal Opportunities, Change, Law, Regulation and Guidance and Social Processes and these themes appear in all aspects of the course.

Entry Requirements

  • A GCE A Level profile which demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or an adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at level A-C.
  • An AVCE/GNVQ in appropriate vocational area.
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications.
  • An Access to Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education institution.
  • Related work experience or equivalent overseas qualifications.
  • More mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience (paid and/or unpaid) and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector. All international will also require an English Proficiency certificate that is at or above B1 level of the Common European Framework. Such certificate includes IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Test (a full list of acceptable English Language Certificates can be found on the UKBA website).

    (Note: After successfully completing Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care, a LIC student may be enrolled for the final year a degree course.)

    Course Assesment

    The HND program is assessed by a mixture of assignments and examinations. Each unit is internally assessed and graded by qualified tutors/assessors and internal verifiers, and than externally by an Edexcel examiner. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit and Distinction.
